Want to sing in a stage musical? AUDITIONS for CHESS the musical are to be held on Wednesday evening 12 July!
Darwin Chorale is excited to be performing the highly acclaimed musical Chess, in October 2017. It is a significant and powerful piece of music theatre. With music by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson of Abba fame and lyrics by Sir Tim Rice, this musical involves American/Russian relationships during the Cold War through World Chess Championships and a romantic love triangle. The principal pawns are the loutish American Grandmaster, the earnest Russian challenger, and the Hungarian/American female chess second who arrives at the international championships in Italy with the American and falls for the Russian. The Russian is keen to defect to the West. From Tyrol to Thailand in 1986-7 the players, lovers, politicians, CIA and KGB make their moves to the pulse of this monumental rock score.
Chorale’s performance will be a concert version, focusing on the thrilling, sophisticated score. The principal performers will act out their roles at the front of the stage, with the orchestra (22 musicians) behind them and the chorus (majority of the Chorale) stationed on rostra commenting on the action.
The orchestra will consist of both local and Alice Springs musicians.
Here is a great opportunity for Darwinites to enjoy lots of stirring, tuneful music, which includes the hit songs “One Night In Bangkok” “I Know Him So Well” and “Nobody’s Side”.
Darwin Chorale is open to new members.
