NT Health Minister John Elferink has kicked off a conversation during Seniors Month suggesting money spent treating sick elderly people should be re-directed to the medical treatment of babies.

Minister Elferink claims the cost of treating the jurisdiction's seniors is at the expense of children and tells Peter Butler he looks forward to a robust debate over the ethical question.

Territory FM's Peter Butler was given the honour, privilege and pleasure to fly on a US Marine Corp tilt-rotor aircraft – the Bell Boeing MV-22 Osprey.

The aircraft Peter flew in was from the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. The squadron are based in Japan and were in Darwin recently for exercise Talisman Sabre.

In part two of his report Peter Butler jumps into the cockpit of a US Marine Corp MV-22 Osprey and discovers the pointy end and what it’s like to fly the tilt-rotor aircraft with Marine aviator Captain Grey Gish.

Territory FM's Peter Butler was given the honour, privilege and pleasure to fly on a US Marine Corp tilt-rotor aircraft – the Bell Boeing MV-22 Osprey.

The Osprey is a military aircraft with vertical take-off and landing capability. The MV-22 combines the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a fixed-wing aircraft.

The aircraft Peter flew in was from the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. The squadron are based in Japan and were in Darwin recently for exercise Talisman Sabre.

His report starts with a rather excited Peter Butler sitting in the back of an Osprey taking off from Bradshaw training ground to the west of Darwin and finishes with Lieutenant Colonel Murray the squadron commander of VMM 265 and ultimate owner of this incredible flying contraption.

During Exercise Talisman Sabre morning host Peter Butler was thrilled and honoured to meet Lieutenant Colonel Toby Moore the Commanding Officer of US Marine Attack Squadron 311, the owners and operators of the VTOL AV-8B Harrier Jump Jets.

Colonel Moore invited Peter on to the flight deck of US Navy Ship Bonhomme Richard to review his fleet of Harriers.
