DARWIN OCEAN SWIM 2025

The Darwin Ocean Swim is the only open water event of its kind in the Top End and this year it’s celebrating 20 years of taking the plunge and giving everyone the opportunity to experience an open water race like no other.

Hosted by the Darwin Surf Live Saving Club in conjunction with McArthur River Mining this year’s swim will take place on Sunday 29th June and Territory FM will be there, broadcasting live, possibly in budgie smugglers to help mark this extraordinary 20 year milestones. Celebrating two decades of community, courage and coastline challenge.

“This is more than a race – it’s a celebration of endurance, spirit and the stunning natural environment we get to call home,” said Sharon Stewart, Event Coordinator.

Michelle Taylor, President of Darwin Surf Life Saving Club, added: “For 20 years, this swim has brought together competitors, volunteers, and spectators in a spirit of fun, fitness and friendship. We’re proud to continue a tradition that showcases not only our beach culture but the incredible capability of our volunteer-run club to deliver a safe and successful event.”

RACE DETAILS

Participants will swim past the majestic Dripstone Cliffs at sunrise, choosing between:

• Long Course: 2.1km
• Short Course: 1.2km

KEY TIMES:

• Numbering: 6:00am – 7:00am
•  Briefing: 7:15am – 7:30am
•  Race Start: 8:15am

• Capped at 300 swimmers

The first 200 registrants will receive a limited-edition 20th anniversary commemorative towel, with top male and female competitors in both long and short open courses also receiving winners’ towels.

PRESENTATIONS

• Post-race at Darwin Surf Life Saving Club
• Age group winners recognised (no medals awarded)
• No awards for the FUN category

 

PARKING

Available along Daribah Road in designated public areas (managed by Parks and Wildlife NT). There is no parking at the Surf Club and competitors are urged to respect all park users and access points.

EVENT CATEGORIES

Open Category:

– No wetsuits, fins, or performance aids
– Swim cap provided must be worn

FUN Category:

– Fins, wetsuits, snorkels allowed
– Not eligible for awards
