ELECTRIC scooters could soon be zipping around Darwin in a deal that would transform transport in the Top End and offer a massive boon to the local economy.

San Francisco-based company Lime says it is in discussions with Darwin City Council to roll out hundreds of its dockless electric scooters around town in time for the start of the dry season.

“No date has been confirmed but we have been having some very productive conversations with the City of Darwin,” the company’s Australia and New Zealand government affairs and strategy director Mitchell Price told the NT News.

Mr Price said the scooters would modernise how locals and tourists get around the city.

“The best way to get around a hot city like Darwin is to move fast and to move fast on a scooter,” he said.
