C U to be banned

MOVES to ban the offensive “C U in the NT” slogan from local markets will be made at Darwin council tomorrow night, with an elected member acting on public disquiet from the family friendly markets.

The Territory’s unofficial slogan, adopted by satirical clothing brand NT Unofficial, sells products in a number of general stores and newsagencies, though it is understood knock-off brands and products operate out of Darwin’s market stalls.

Alderman Robin Knox will move a motion at tomorrow night’s meeting seeking legal advice and requesting remove material displaying CUintheNT from public view at the Nightcliff markets.

Ms Knox said at a recent market day, a number of people had approached her complaining about the material, including local MP Natasha Fyles.

“A stall selling caps and stubby coolers with the branding CUinNT … was located near the pancake stall and the children’s playground at Nightcliff markets,” she said.
