Arafura Games – Tuesday

Written by on 29/04/2019

Arafura Games 2019 action will take place on Tuesday in eight sports.

Competition will continue in football, muaythai (note new 5.00pm start time), squash, swimming, table tennis and tennis while sailing and basketball make their 2019 Arafura Games debuts.

Australian Sailing and the Darwin Sailing Club will bring the fastest growing sailing discipline, Match Racing (think America’s Cup) to the Arafura Games 2019.

Eight crews from the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Singapore, India, New Zealand and the Australian Defence Force will take to the waters of Fannie Bay from 10.00am today.

Spectators can watch the races by heading out on to Darwin Harbour and becoming part of the spectator fleet, or by enjoying the live stream at the Darwin Sailing Club or on YouTube.

With only two gold medals on offer – one for the men and one for the women – the Arafura Games 2019 basketball competition at the Darwin Basketball Stadium will be red hot.

It’s a game with a language all its own as the fleet-footed players slam dunk, dribble, shoot and rebound over the five days of intense competition from 9.00am today.

Table Tennis

A massive seven-day table tennis program continues at the Marrara Indoor Stadium.

Competition continues in singles and teams events each day until the Oceania Regional Para Table Tennis Championships Teams prelims on Friday 3 May between 10am – 1.00pm and 2.00pm and 5.00pm and the para finals on Sunday 4 May between 10.00am and 1.00pm.

Sixty-two players from across Australia, as well as from Malaysia, Indonesia and New Caledonia are competing in squash at Marrara.

Medals will be awarded in the men’s and women’s PSA, the men’s and women’s graded singles, the men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Play takes place each day from 9.00am until Friday.
