Corflute Wars !

VERBAL biffo broke out at a Palmerston pre-polling centre on Monday over the placement of corflutes.

Witnesses to the altercation told the NT News an ETU member volunteering for Labor Member for Solomon Luke Gosling crossed a carpark to tear down a CLP sign which had partially obscured one of Mr Gosling’s corflutes.

The Labor camp denied the ETU member had shouted at CLP volunteers handing out how to vote cards, though witnesses told the NT News he had.

Angry words were exchanged on both sides as tensions between parties boiled over in the tightly run contest for Solomon.

Mr Gosling acknowledged an incident had occurred but downplayed its significance.

“I understand there was a conversation around the placement of corflutes which was quickly and respectfully resolved,” he said.

“I do not condone — regardless of which political party volunteers represent — any kind of disrespectful behaviour at polling booths.”
