The seventh round of the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship
gets underway this weekend in the top end, with the 22nd running of the BetEasy
Darwin Triple Crown.
Defending Champion Scott McLaughlin, who celebrated his 26th birthday on
Monday, enters this weekend in form having won the last three Championship
races and is a firm favourite to become the first ever Supercars driver to
claim the Triple Crown.
To win the Triple Crown title, a driver must win both the Saturday and Sunday
races, and on the Sunday claim the fastest lap time in the ARMOR ALL Top Ten
Shootout.
If McLaughlin manages pole for either Saturday or Sunday this weekend he will
equal the late great Peter Brock for career pole positions on 57, second on the
all-time list behind Jamie Whincup (80).
He says his recent run of form which includes 10 wins from 13 starts in 2019
has him in a strong frame of mind heading into a weekend where he is aiming to
join a legend and possibly create history.
