DARWIN will channel the sights, sounds and smells of New Delhi this Saturday for the annual India@Mindil festival.
In its 23rd year, the event celebrates Indian culture in the Top End.
Indian Cultural Society of the NT secretary Nadia D’Souza said the festival got bigger and better each year.
“There’s been a lot of planning behind the scenes so it’ll be good once it goes to fruition,” she said.
Foods from various Indian regions are on offer, as well as different styles of music and dances to enjoy.
Ms D’Souza said it was important to the growing Indian community to showcase its culture.
“For me it’s important to have an opportunity to learn about my culture and immerse myself in it,” she said.
“When you live away from your country you can often become quite isolated and easily forget. I think this annual event is important for us as individuals to hold on to that but equally share it with others.”
About 10,000 people are expected to attend the festival on the day.
India@Mindil begins at 4pm this Saturday and runs until late.
