Off to China we go!

THE Gunner Government’s trade trip to China this week will cost Territory taxpayers more than $117,000 in flights and accommodation.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner and Primary Industries and Resources Minister Paul Kirby will lead a delegation of 26 senior public servants and about 50 business leaders to promote the Northern Territory at their “Reaching South” events in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province.

The NT Government recently revealed more details about the costs of the trip, which shows flights and accommodation for the Chief Minister, Mr Kirby and three of their personal staff will cost $26,215.

Travel and accommodation costs for the 26 public servants in the delegation will be $91,102.

While in China, Mr Gunner and Mr Kirby will also meet with key government, business and industry partners, including Austrade and members from the energy sector.

“We know that increasing private sector investment creates strong economic growth and more local jobs — especially more permanent jobs,” Mr Gunner said.

“This is why delegations like this — to our biggest trading partner — are so important.”
