The Bureau of Meteorology’s seven-day forecast shows Cyclone Jasper potentially tracking a stormy pathway across the Top End to Darwin.

Which means we could be in for some storms and wet weather from Friday, with a moderate chance of a cyclone over the weekend.

According to the BOM forecast map, Cyclone Jasper will make landfall in Queensland as a category two storm on Wednesday.

Territorians have a 25-30% chance of getting a front-row seat or in the very least some welcome rainfall.

It’s not a bad reminder to get your emergency kit ready and make sure you have a plan in place. Take a look around at what you might need to get for your home, your family, the kids and your pets.

What should be in your cyclone kit

  • Battery-operated radio
  • Torch, candles, and matches
  • Spare batteries
  • Three days of non-perishable foods
  • Can opener
  • 10 litres of bottled water per person
  • First aid kit and manual with essential medicines
  • A change of warm clothes per person
  • Closed-in shoes
  • Blankets or sleeping bags
  • Toilet paper
  • Essential toiletries, including sunscreen and insect repellent
  • Special needs for infants, the aged, and people with disabilities
  • Money
  • Important documents such as birth certificates, drivers’ licenses, passports, insurance policies, and photos
  • Sealable waterproof bags
  • Mobile phone, charger, and power bank
  • Extra car and house keys
  • A copy of your household plan
