More rain please!

DARWIN was shaken and drenched overnight as a fierce thunder storm rattled residents with more than 20,000 lightning strikes and dropped more than 100mm of rain on parts of the city.

Police put out alerts to warn motorists to drive carefully after McMillans Rd flooded at the intersection of Charles Eaton Dr at Jingili.

The flood water have since resided.

The Bureau of Meteorology recorded 121mm of rain at Marrara and 49.4mm at the Darwin Airport as of 7.45am.

Last night’s storm also rattled Top End residents with an astonishing estimated 25,000 lightning strikes.

Darwin is forecast to see a top of 33C today and there is an estimated 80 per cent chance of rain.
