Are we seeing a post-pandemic tsunami of divorces?
The scene has been set by the number of divorces reportedly doubling following the easing of isolation restrictions in Wuhan. And it seems that Australia may be heading down a similar path. Logically, it seems reasonable that isolation with a partner where a marriage or de facto relationship is already on shaky ground, would be a sure-fire way to ensure that the relationship really has ended. Now some early statistics show that Australian relationships may well be facing a faster end than they might otherwise have had but for coronavirus. Recent surveys show that there is a surge of people looking online for information about divorces and separation, and that more people are no longer happy in their current relationships. Anecdotally, we’re seeing a similar trend in our practice.
