Are your kids looking forward to the return of sport?
With the ease of restrictions, community-based sport is gearing up for the return of kids into their programs while grappling with the fact that kids may not want to return. While parents have returned to nostalgic pastimes to fill their COVID hours, maybe it’s time for sport to realign with its true values: fun, friendship and fitness. Community sport needs to reflect on how they can bring kids back to the fold through inspiration and entertainment. Sport can no longer be about causing burnout or compromising a kid’s future happiness and wellbeing. After all, even the Olympics are just a short time period in an athlete’s life and should be treated as a fun stop on the way to achieving other longer-lasting dreams.
