Matt OShea chats with Mel about The Heart Health Program! It’s a DVA Initiative support by Corporate Health Management. This program runs for 12 months and is delivered in groups of approximately 12-18 participants. The group meets at a designated Recreation Centre or Health Club for weekly activity sessions and monthly educational workshops. Experienced exercise and health professionals provide the participants with a structured and supervised fitness training schedule.
The Heart Health Program aims to help increase physical health and wellbeing and includes regular physical activity sessions tailored to the needs and fitness level of the group along with 12 health education modules.
The program covers a range of topics including: nutrition, weight management, diabetes, cardiovascular health, back care, stress management, sleep and physical activity
Participation in the program is fully subsidised and funded by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
The Heart Health program is open to all returned servicemen and women, and eligible peacekeepers who have not previously participated in the program.
